Ubiquiti Urges To Change Password & Enable 2FA After Incident

Ubiquiti a vendor which deals in the router, secure gateways, wireless network solutions, video recorder, camera, access control system and other cloud based Internet of Things [IoT] is urging their customers to change the Ubiquiti password and enable 2FA [Two Factor Authentication] due to a recent incident. As per the company “an incident at a third-party cloud provider may have exposed customer account information and credentials used to remotely manage Ubiquiti gear“.

Solution

To counter the situation it is advised to login into the account and then
1. Change the password
2. Set a session Timeout value
3. Enable Two Factor Authentication
To manage your security settings on a Ubiquiti device, visit https://account.ui.com and log in. Click on “Security” & Follow the steps shown below in the image

By following the steps mentioned above, you would be able to change the password, session timeout settings and could enable 2FA, which will ultimately make your access safe.

For Unifi Wireless System

If you are using the Unifi Wireless solution and in case you are not aware of the account created for the cloud access then log in to the Unifi Controller and follow the steps mentioned below to make the required changes.
1. Go To Settings
2. Navigate to Remote Access
3. Check Remote Access Status
4. Owner

Navigate to the page as shown above in the image and check if remote access is enabled (above in the image it is not enabled)? In case of remote access is enabled then check the owner for which the remote access is configured. In step 4 you could see the email address of the remote access owner. You could then take the necessary actions by accessing the account at https://account.ui.com.
