There are Five types of software or SonicOS released on the basis of requirement.
General Release
General Release SonicWall software or SonicOS are deployed and tested software. They are considered as a mature software which is widely deployed and they are considered as most reliable. They are suitable for typical use cases. General Releases SonicWall software or SonicOS are used for production environments.
Feature Release
Feature Release software is a new release that includes major new features in the product. Before being launched for general use a Feature Release software has gone through multiple & thorough engineering, quality testing, alpha and beta test cycles. A Feature Release software is considered as the suitable software to move to General Release once the maturity criteria are met.
Maintenance Release
Maintenance Release software is the software which includes bug fixes and enhancements made to a previous release. A Maintenance Release has gone through engineering & quality test cycles before is launched for general availability.
Initial Release
Initial release software is the first release of a new product. An initial Release software is good to use till the time a General Release software becomes available. It is recommended to upgrade to General Release upon availability.
Hotfix Release
Hotfix releases contain the latest fixes and patches and are provided to customers who are looking to address specific issues. Eventually, Hotfix releases are integrated into the Maintenance/General release.
